Western Cape man receives double life sentence

2011-05-30 12:23

A 27-year-old man received a double life sentence in the Riversdale Regional Court today for attempted murder, rape, robbery and theft, Western Cape police said.

Captain Bernadine Steyn said Jakob September and his accomplice, 18-year-old Jason Pietersen, were sentenced on Friday for their attack on an 18-year-old woman on the night of May 29 last year.

The woman gave them a ride on her way from Riversdale to her home on a farm near Soetmelks River.

The men failed in stealing her car, but stole her jewellery and both men raped her twice, after which September dropped a large rock on the woman’s head.

“The victim survived and when she regained her consciousness she went in search of help at a nearby farm.”

The two men were arrested shortly afterwards.

September was found guilty on two charges of rape, for which he received two life sentences, three years imprisonment on a charge of robbery, eight years on a charge of attempted murder and two years on a charge of theft.

Steyn said he would serve the sentences concurrently.

Pietersen was found guilty on two charges of rape and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
