Western Cape team bombs out of Premier Cup

2013-03-29 12:54

Kaizer Chiefs’ Under-19 team hammered their Hanover Park counterparts by five goals to nil last night during a Group G contest of the Metropolitan Premier Cup in Erica Park outside Cape Town.

Hanover Park became the fourth Western Cape side to bomb out on day two of the six-day tournament.

There are eight groups of four teams in the tournament, with 19 of the teams based in the Western Cape, 12 from around the country and one from Nigeria.

With four of the host-province outfits already out, the 15 who are left are expected to put up a fight to keep the trophy in the Cape when it all goes down to the wire on Tuesday in the final.

The showpiece is known for introducing to the world football stars, including Benni McCarthy, Quinton Fortune, Daylon Claasen and Thulani Serero.

But it looks like McCarthy, who hails from Hanover Park, will have to wait a little longer to see another player of his calibre from his hometown.

Today’s games, kicking off from 3.30pm, will see only teams – such as Chiefs – that have played one match take to the field before the official opening of the cup competition takes centre stage at 7.45pm.

Today’s fixtures:

3.30pm: University of Pretoria vs Santos; Stars of Africa vs Berea Albion; Bidvest Wits vs

Swallows (PE); Blue Down Spurs vs Immortal Academy

4.45pm: Chippa United vs Glendene United; Ungungundlovu vs SuperSport United; MP Black Aces vs Kaizer Chiefs; Segra Academy vs Mamelodi Sundowns

6pm: Bayhill United vs Milano United

8.15pm: Ajax Cape Town vs Harmony Academy
