What’s in Claire’s bag?

You’ll remember Claire Mawisa’s yellow-toned skin and big smile from SABC1 when she was still a continuity presenter with the likes of Felicity Shiba, Dicksy Ngqula and Tumi Ndaba.

But after plenty of time in the limelight, the 32-year-old model, TV and radio personality has opted for a behind-the-scenes role as producer on T-Bose Mokwele’s mid-morning show on Kaya FM.

Mawisa is also the content co-ordinator for the station as well as a familiar face on Mzansi’s red carpets.

The question is: What does a woman with such a busy schedule – both in and out of the public eye – carry in her handbag? To my surprise, her bag isn’t as big as I had expected.

» Navy sling bag – “I bought this at the airport one day, at Accessorize, and I loved it from the moment I saw it. It might seem small but I love the concept of a hands-free bag, where I can just whip it over my shoulder and walk freely and be able to use my phone at the same time.”

» Mini cosmetics bag – “It is small but it has so much stuff in it, mostly my lip stuff which I’m obsessed with.”

To prove her obsession, she unpacks five different products – a MAC nude lipstick, Revlon lip gloss, Blistex, DCT Lip Balm and a Vaseline tub.

“I love anything that is lips, I am addicted to it,” she says. “The lipstick and the lip-gloss come in handy for when I have to clean up for an event because it does happen that I have to go straight from the office to an event.”

For such occasions, Mawisa also applies her Armani Diamonds perfume and keeps two pairs of earrings in her bag so that she can “change my look from day to night”.

» Nail file – “Have you ever had that one nail that irritates and hooks onto everything that you touch? Well, that is why I carry a nail file; to file that irritation off immediately.”

» Clear nail polish – “I can apply that when I’m in the office. It also comes in handy when my nails look out of shape or bad.”

» Hand-and-nail lotion – “I wash my hands a lot during the day and I hate having ashy hands.”

» Red leather gloves – “These are my hot accessory of the season. When I put them on, they just add that WOW effect to my outfit because of the colour.”

» Medication – “I have Panado because I can never function with a headache. I also have Viral Choice to prevent me from getting flu.”

» Gum and restaurant sweets – “The sweets land in my bag when I pay the bill, they often come in handy when I feel hungry. And the gum is for fresh breath always.”

» Lastly, she whips out her BlackBerry 9800, spare battery and charger – “No living happens without my phone; it’s like oxygen. I get work emails, tweets, BBMs (BlackBerry messages). I’m always on Twitter or Facebook so the charger and the spare battery come in handy.”
