Cheerleader-in-chief for President Jacob Zuma is SACP general secretary and Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande, who is hoping to make his mark at the policy conference with policy discussions that are already “littered with Marxist jargon”, as Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe put it.

But Nzimande is said to be hoping to be chosen as deputy president in Mangaung, and will do everything necessary to overcome possible hurdles to the job. That means Motlanthe is first in his firing line.
