Who would SA Idols’ Kelly save?

2011-08-26 13:00

If Kelly Fortuin, Idols top eight contender, could save a fellow contestant – as she was saved by the judges this week – it would be Nolly.

“She has the full package – she can sing, dance and she knows how to work with the camera. On the night she was sent home, she wasn’t the worst or any time before that in fact,” Kelly says.

Her own performance on Sunday night, however, was “the worst performance of my life”, according to her.

“Millions were watching and I messed up! I felt so under pressure that I focused too much on the dancing and the performance instead of the vocals,” Kelly says.

“Nobody can do an MJ (she performed Michael Jackson’s You Rock My World) song justice except for him,” she adds, “this is why I’m never ever trying it out again.”

Kelly is set on avoiding a repeat of Sunday night’s drama when barely into her repeat performance, Gareth Cliff stopped her and declared her safe.

“I’m really grateful. They saw something in me that I obviously didn’t,” she says.

To please the judges – who used their one and only save for the series to keep her in the competition – she will be sticking to the tried and tested “Kelly jazzy sound”.

This Sunday, she’ll perform the Aretha Franklin and George Michael hit I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me).

Choir Week is this week’s theme for the top eight and will be accompanied by the Mzansi Youth Choir.

English songwriter and musician James Blunt will open up the show and US RnB sensation Chante Moore is the guest judge.
