Who’s who flock to Tlale midnight show

2010-07-01 12:15

David Tlale’s designs have come to be known not only for their glamour and drama but also for who wears them.

Tlale’s show at the Sandton Convention centre this morning was a case in point.

Revellers such as comedian David Kau and singer/DJ Unathi Nkayi and her hubby Thomas Msengana were there.

As if to prove Tlale’s cross-over appeal, soccer star Matthew Booth was there to snap away while his model wife Sonia made her way down the runway draped in a dramatic black DT dress.

Former Miss South Africa Tatum Keshwar was also among the models.

Opera singer Sibongile Mngoma, who later sang with the orchestra performing at the show while wearing a black DT design, said she loved the designs she had seen backstage.

“It was such an amazing experience; it is definitely the highlight of my year,” she gushed.

As would be expected of a major event that takes place during the biggest sporting event in the world, the 2010 Fifa World Cup, many sporting personalities were also present.

Among them was soccer analyst Coudjoe Amankwah, who said that he attended because he supports African events: “Africa is working hard to change global perceptions of Africans.”

International Hip Hop star K’naan – of the hit World Cup song Waving Flag – said he liked the show: “I thought the orchestra was great. Some of the menswear was over-the-top but he had nice jackets.”

Tsotsi actress Terry Pheto, whose love life has been in the headlines since she split from DJ and businessman S’Bu Leope, summed up most of the audience’s views when she said: “David is a trendsetter, you can’t box him because he’s so creative.

"I expected something out of this world and that was what I got.”
