Agang leader Mamphela Ramphele has rubbished claims that she would be accepting membership of the DA on Monday, saying she had not agreed to it.

Ramphele has been addressing structures inside her party, which are unhappy with her pact with the DA to serve as its presidential candidate.

In a statement she issued this afternoon to party members, she said the “joint statement” issued by the DA claiming she would accept its membership was “not true”.

“Nor did I agree to any such statement. It is Agang’s position that the technical committee must first complete its work,” Ramphele said.

However, a statement by Helen Zille on the DA’s website only mentions that the “DA will welcome Dr Ramphele and members of Agang SA” on Monday in Johannesburg in an event to mark the 24th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s release.

The statement also suggests that they will march together on Tuesday for six million jobs, presumably to the ANC’s headquarters in the Johannesburg CBD.

But permission for this march has since been denied.
