London – William and Kate, the duke and duchess of Cambridge, are “very pleased to announce” they are expecting their second child, a royal spokesperson said today.

Queen Elizabeth II and other members of Britain’s royal family were “delighted” with the news, he said, nearly 14 months after the birth of the couple’s first child, Prince George.

As with her first pregnancy, the 32-year-old duchess was suffering from acute morning sickness, the spokesperson said, and was being treated by doctors at her home in Kensington Palace in central London.

As a result, she will not be attending a planned engagement today in Oxford.

“Many congratulations to the duke and duchess of Cambridge,” Prime Minister David Cameron said.

“I’m delighted by the happy news that they’re expecting another baby.”

George, who is third in line to the throne, was born July 22 2013.
