Winnie blames Zuma for DC against Malema

2011-10-27 07:27

Winnie Madikizela-Mandela blames President Jacob Zuma for the disciplinary charges against ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema.

Madikizela-Mandela said yesterday the decision to charge Malema was Zuma’s, The Star reported.

She was the final witness to testify in Malema’s favour at the disciplinary hearing held in Joburg.

The prosecution team had not listed Zuma or ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe as Complainants.

Mantashe testified against Malema while Zuma elected Lindiwe Zulu to testify on his behalf, according to the report.

The ANC disciplinary hearing against Malema followed utterances he made recently which the prosecution asserts are “unbecoming of an ANC member”.

He faces charges of bringing the ANC into disrepute and sowing division within party ranks.

Malema recently said the youth league would send a team to Botswana to consolidate local opposition parties and help bring about regime change.

Charged with him are the league’s spokesperson Floyd Shivambu, deputy-president Ronald Lamola, treasurer-general Pule Mabe, secretary-general Sindiso Magaqa, and deputy secretary general Kenetswe Mosenogi.

Madikizela-Mandela’s role was to clarify the position of the youth dating back to the 1950s.

Closing arguments will be heard on November 3.
