Woman cut in half by aircraft

2012-03-28 09:10

A woman trying to run across the Ermelo airfield was cut in half by a light aircraft landing.

Police Captain Carla Prinsloo told the Beeld that three women had been gathering wood at a nearby plantation yesterday.

“They took a shortcut across the airfield, but one of the women misjudged the distance of a landing plane and was hit by the left wing,” she said.

The woman, thought to be in her late 50s, still had to be identified by her family at the Ermelo mortuary.

The pilot, Malcolm Wushard, was not injured. His Mooney single-engine aircraft was damaged.

Prinsloo said there would be an investigation, and the accident had been reported to the Civil Aviation Authority.
