Woman recognises robber’s shadow as that of her gardener’s

2011-06-02 08:26

A Free State woman had fingered her gardener as the man who had robbed her because she recognised his shadow, police said today.

Captain Phumelelo Dhlamini said the Clocolan woman woke to see “a shadow” that looked like that of her gardener in her bedroom at 3am yesterday.

She told the police that although the thief’s face was covered with a balaclava, she was sure that the silhouette was that of her gardener.

The man threatened her with an iron rod, stole cash and a cellphone, and ran away.

Investigations led police to the house of the Mosotho man, 49, who worked as a gardener at the woman’s house.

Dhlamini said police found the gardener still wearing clothes fitting the description given by the woman. They also found in his possession property stolen from her.

Police said the man was arrested on charges of house robbery.
