ANC Women’s League president Angie Motshekga will today deliver a memorandum of grievances to the US Consulate in Durban to mark the end of 16 Days of Activism Campaign Against Women and Children Abuse.

“The African National Congress Women’s League will picket ... in support of the five wives of the Cubans who are locked-up in a US prison. The wives have been denied visas and access by the US government to see their husbands for the past 12 years,” the league’s provincial secretary Nonhlanhla Khoza said.

The five women are the wives of the Cuban Five : Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González, and René González. They are Cuban intelligence officers convicted in Miami of espionage, conspiracy to commit murder, and other illegal activities in the United States.

Khoza said civil society movements, trade unions, alliance partners and members of the community would join the picket.?
