Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates will have their coffers boosted by Fifa, thanks to the players they have currently taking part in the World Cup.

This, due to a Fifa regulation which sees football’s governing body paying clubs a rate of $2 800 (R30 000) a day for players making the 23-man squads in Brazil.

Sundowns have two players at the tournament – Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila and Nigeria winger Ejike Uzoenyi, and should be set for a minimum payment of around R600 000.

Pirates are represented at the showpiece by Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda, who failed to get any game time for the Buccaneers last season and is unlikely to feature in Brazil.

Downs coach Pitso Mosimane will also be in Brazil, having been awarded with a trip to the World Cup after winning the PSL Coach of the Season award.

The figures could rise if Ghana or Nigeria make it beyond the group stages, although both teams got off to slow starts as Nigeria drew with Iran while Ghana lost 2-1 to the USA.
