World Cup ticketing agency defiant despite empty seats

2010-06-18 16:09

The agency that has exclusive World Cup ticketing rights says its

results in South Africa can’t be faulted, despite empty seats and empty suites

at stadiums.

Match director Jaime Byrom says it’s “no secret” his company will

lose money on its corporate hospitality business.

But he says Match should be judged on delivering ticket revenue

that “generously surpassed” expectations to South Africa’s local organising

committee and its service to Fifa’s commercial partners.

Byrom blames the global financial crisis for poor sales of

hospitality packages in South Africa.

He believes that the economy will recover before the 2014

tournament in Brazil and that Match will make profits there that will cover all

its losses on this World Cup.
