You owe Mulder an apology

Ms City Press editor, your comments espousing “Why Mulder must leave government (Voices, February 19)” are as biased as Pieter Mulder’s pontification on land reforms are prejudiced.

No one disputes the fact that we, “the KhoiSan are the first indigenous people in South Africa (page 29 of Voices)”, and even if my ancestors and forefathers were nomads, it was in a land that we claimed as our own. It was our “hood”.

Secondly, to want Mulder to leave government because “it is pointless having a minister or deputy minister whose political vision is so at odds with the government he serves” is banal and jaundiced to say the least.

He is the opposition, remember, and opposition parties have their own political visions that invariably never are in sync with the government of the day. That is why they are called the opposition.

“He should go because he does not appreciate that being a minister (even a deputy) means that he should serve government rather than those who sent him to Parliament.”

Duh! Ever heard of constituencies and that government is answerable to the people who installed it?

I don’t know how a democracy is conducted on the planet you come from, but here, every minister is supposed to serve the people rather than the institution of government.

Unfortunately, our ministers only serve themselves.

At least Mulder, with his flawed and medieval politics, mandates his position by faithfully serving those who sent him to Parliament.

Can the same be said of those in the ruling party? So, in your myopic view, who should rather go then, Ms City Press editor?

I think you seriously owe Mulder an apology!
