Zimbabwe-born model bags Vuitton spot

Nyasha Matonhodze is one of the new faces in the autumn/ winter advertising campaign for luxury French label Louis Vuitton.

Discovered only last year, fresh-faced Matonhodze was born and raised in Harare and moved to Britain when she was eight.

She has already featured in a handful of magazine editorials, including some big names such as Teen Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, and has sashayed down the runway in dozens of shows in Europe and the US.

The shows include Louis Vuitton, Emanuel Ungaro and Loewe, kick-starting her modelling career in the spring 2011 season.

During London Fashion Week’s Spring/Summer 2011 shows, Matonhodze modelled for Louise Gray, Clements Ribeiro and Jonathan Saunders, as well as Jean-Charles de Castelbajac in Paris.

When she heard she had been selected as one of the stars of the upcoming Vuitton campaign, Nyasha told the UK Telegraph: “My eyes filled up with tears and I thought ‘Lord, you are lucky!’

“It didn’t actually hit me until I was sat in a Rolls-Royce eye-to-eye with fashion photographer Stephen Meisel.”

The Huffington Post reports that she told New York magazine’s The Cut blog: “If you’re not strong-minded, modelling can knock your confidence quite harshly. Every day you’re judged on your looks, and more so today you’re judged on your personality.

“With that said, a lot of us are 15 or 16 years old, so some girls could really take the criticism personally.”
