Zuma consults over Constitutional Court judge

2013-03-01 13:52

President Jacob Zuma has written to leaders of political parties to consult with them over the appointment of a new Constitutional Court judge.

He must do this, according to the Constitution.

“The president has requested the comments and views of the parties on the ... candidates. Parties have been asked to submit their comments by the 11th of March 2013,” the presidency said today.

The presidency said Zuma had only written to parties represented in the National Assembly.

The Judicial Service Commission had submitted four names for Zuma to consider.

The list comprised Judge Selby Alan Masibonge Baqwa, Judge Lebotsang Orphan Bosielo, advocate Mbuyiseli Russel Madlanga, and Judge Brian Solomon Spilg.
