President Jacob Zuma has been given a clean bill of health following his annual medical check-up, presidency spokesperson Mac Maharaj has said.

Responding to media inquiries on why the president had been spotted at various hospitals in Durban, Maharaj said Zuma was not ill and had not been admitted to hospital.

“He is not sick. He is having routine checks,” he said.

This followed a report on SAfm that he was in hospital in Durban.

“President Jacob Zuma today, 6 March 2013, visited three Durban hospitals for his annual medical check up,” said Maharaj.

By lunchtime today, Zuma had been declared healthy.

“The president was given a clean bill of health by his doctors,” Maharaj said.

His visits to the hospitals had, however, sparked public curiosity.

“Excited and curious members of the public at the three hospitals have been calling the media to enquire about the visits,” Maharaj said.

Zuma was well and was expected to travel to Cape Town later today for various engagements.

These included opening the National House of Traditional Leaders at Parliament tomorrow morning.

Zuma, who turns 71 in April, apologised during his state of the nation address on February 14 for having flu.
