Zuma to visit families headed by grandparents, ANC veteran on KZN gig

2013-07-26 11:05

President Jacob Zuma will spend today visiting communities around Durban and KwaDukuza on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast as part of an ANC pre-election campaign mobilisation programme.

Zuma will kick off with a briefing with ANC activists at Folweni, south of Durban, before visiting several families in the area who are destitute and living off social grants and who have been assisted by the local ANC.

He will visit the Jele and Khanyase families, both of which are headed by grandparents and who are being built homes by local activists.

He will also visit Sazi Ngcongo, an ANC veteran, who was arrested along with Zuma and 44 others near Zeerust in the early 1960s. The group were sentenced to 10 years on Robben Island.

From Folweni, Zuma will address a rally at Umlazi’s King Zwelithini Stadium and will do a walkabout with shoppers at the township’s Mega City shopping mall.

The president will then move to the north coast, where he will first speak at a rally at Mandeni’s Ncedomhlophe Stadium.

In the evening Zuma will then attend a briefing session with minority communities at KwaDukuza’s Stanger Heights before wrapping up the visit.

His trip is part of a series around the country ahead of the ANC manifesto launch to get party structures into a state of readiness for the formal elections campaign.
