#randomtweet: Generations of imperfect people

2010-10-09 19:49

Since I was a child, I’ve had dreams of progressing from my rural background and being thrust into the boardroom of an advertising company as a director.

I would live in my penthouse suite in Sandton/Morningside, Johannesburg – which I would have inherited from a deceased ex-boyfriend of mine who eerily still talks to me in my dreams from time to time.

To get away from this trauma, I would take a trip to Europe, and decide on a whim to stay for three months. Then I would come back and reconcile with my brother, who speaks another language totally different from mine (don’t ask), because we had a fight about him raising my daughter as his own.

Ah, yes, I too have dreamt of being a Generations character.

A Moroka, Motene, Mogale or Mashaba?

No, all of those surnames that start with M seem to be plagued by a jilted scriptwriter’s pen.

The Morokas are all but annihilated, the Motenes have left the stage, Tau Mogale is a ghost, and the Mashabas are linguistic cross-breeds (Paul speaks rural Zulu and Kenneth speaks rural Pedi – not a good sign).

I prefer to be a Dlomo.

No, wait.

Wasn’t it Sibusiso Dlomo who refused to accept his son’s homosexuality and then embarrassed himself at a family gathering by arriving sloshed out of his mind, meaning that his alcoholic demons had returned to haunt him?

Ntombi Dlomo has not had an easy life either, after having to endure her daughter being kidnapped as well as having a bad hairstylist (who appears to have been fired because now Ntombi’s hair obeys the direction of her head).

It seems as though I have a very empty pool of Generations characters to live vicariously through.

This leads me to one conclusion: the scriptwriter is tjatjarag and needs to be “taken care” of.

Successful black people can’t keep suffering like this unless they are Primrose Crous or John Hlophe.

What message are we sending to this nation’s kids (who, by the way, are the reason the ratings for this show are so high)?

That no one leads a perfect life?

Utter nonsense.
