1 000 paws for spca walk: bring your pooch and join the fun

2011-07-01 00:00

THE concept for the 1 000 Paws Walk for SPCA comes from Australia, where it is so successful it is called the Million Paws Walk and takes place all across the country.

In 2009 the SPCAs of Mooi River, Pietermaritzburg and uMngeni (Howick) joined forces to launch the first Thousand Paws Walk for SPCA at Midmar Dam. Last year the venue shifted to Hilton College, where the walk will be held again this year.

This year’s Weekend Witness 1 000 Paws Walk for SPCA at Hilton College on Sunday, July 10, will be bigger and better than ever, with even more fun for everyone. Youngsters have been specially catered for with Sharkie and Simba and lots of other kids’ activities. The arena will be packed from 10.30 am to mid-afternoon and there will be music, food and drinks in abundance. The entry fee of R25 per person over six years and R10 per dog can be paid at the gate, which opens at 9 am. There are prizes for people who raise the most sponsorship on the walk. Sponsorship forms can be obtained from any of the participating SPCAs or downloaded from the uMngeni SPCA website, www.umngenispca.org.za. For more information contact Heather at 033 330 5299.
