100k up for grabs for runners

2014-10-11 00:00

FOR ordinary everyday runners, the first prize spot at the finish line is a far-off dream as they dawdle behind the country’s best. Well, it used to be that way.

The country’s first “100k” run is quickly becoming the talk of the town. This brand new concept offers a massive R100 000 cash prize as a lucky draw to anyone who finishes the 12 km race at the end of this month.

To make things more interesting, ten “speed bump prizes” will be handed out before the big R100 000 jackpot, where the selected runners can choose whether to claim the smaller prize and disqualify themselves from the lucky draw or chance fate for the big money.

The trail will traverse the hills and forests of the St Ives Hotel and is scheduled for October 25.

Stefan van der Merwe from Lungile Health, the organisers of the event, said that “it definitely is one of the biggest prize pots for a race in South Africa”.

Those who are interested in the event can find more information at www.100k.co.za.
