ELEVEN people were injured when a minibus taxi hit an Opel Cadet at the intersection of Langalibalele and Boshoff streets in Pietermaritzburg last night.

Andre Visser of ER24 reported that the taxi hit the side of the Opel “at some speed”. One of the taxi’s rear seats broke loose, flinging passengers to the front of the vehicle.

“When ER24 paramedics arrived at the scene they broke off the door from the taxi to free the injured occupants,” Visser said

He added that 10 taxi passengers suffered injuries ranging from multiple scrapes and bruises to suspected spinal injuries. The Opel Cadet driver sustained a serious injury to his face as well as a suspected back injury.
