18 dead, 38 hurt on KZN roads

FOUR pedestrians were among 18 people killed and 37 injured on KwaZulu-Natal roads at the weekend.

A 52-year-old woman died on Friday when she was knocked down by a minibus on the R74 Muden road.

A boy and a girl died and two other pedestrians sustained injuries after being knocked down by a car on the R102 Shaka’s Head road.

Also on Friday, four people died and a passenger was critically injured when the truck they were travelling in overturned near Jozini in Zululand.

On the R103 Harrismith road near Peacetown, nine people died and 16 were injured in a head-on collision between a minibus and a car.

One person died and three other passengers were injured on the P36/P32 Nquthu road when the driver lost control and overturned.

One person died and seven others were injured in a head-on collision between two bakkies on the P609 Green Land road in Kokstad. One of the drivers was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested at the scene.

On Saturday, seven people were injured in a head-on collision between a Toyota Condor and another car on the P36/2 Nquthu Road.

A woman in her sixties suffered multiple broken bones when she was knocked over by a bakkie on the R56 in France, Pietermaritzburg, at about 1 pm yesterday.
