2 dead, 18 injured in head-on collision

AN accident left two people dead and 18 injured near Cato Ridge last night.

The deceased, believed to be husband and wife, were thought to have been taking their two sons to Durban when the accident occurred.

It is believed that a taxi laden with people swerved and crashed into the family’s car.

The head-on collision caused a bakkie, carrying people on the back, to crash into them and hit the road barrier.

ER24’s Paul Knoesen said the mother was ejected through the windscreen and died immediately while the father lay trapped in the wreckage.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the father died soon after paramedics arrived on scene.

Meiring said it was unclear what the cause of the accident was and that police are investigating.
