2 kids killed as minibus crashes

2014-10-03 00:00

TWO young children were killed and 11 people injured when a minibus drove down an embankment and overturned on the Ixopo/Richmond road yesterday.

The children who died were aged between two and six years. Their identities were not released.

Netcare 911 media liaison officer Santi Steinmann said paramedics had to climb down the embankment to make their way to the crashed minibus. Jaws of life were used to free a man trapped in the wreckage.

Robert McKenzie of Emergency Medical Services said four of the injured patients were in critical condition. Five of them sustained serious injuries and two others had minor injuries.

The injured were taken to Edendale Hospital and Christ the King Hospital at Ixopo.
