The safety and security plan was devised about two months ago and is a joint operation between the SAPS, SANDF, Metro Police, Road Traffic Inspectorate, LOC and other government departments.

Naidoo yesterday said air patrols and vehicle patrols had increased, however, the most significant has been foot patrols.

“The whole objective was to saturate the areas surrounding the venue of the draw and the venues where other events are taking place … There have been no reports of incidents and everything is running smoothly,” he said.

Durban International Airport spokesman Colin Naidoo yesterday told Weekend Witness that the bulk of the Fifa dignitaries and journalists have already arrived in Durban.

Meanwhile the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC) has been abuzz with Fifa dignitaries and journalists accrediting themselves for the draw tomorrow.
