203 km/h: Merc driver arrested for speeding

2011-06-06 00:00

A 36-YEAR-OLD woman was arrested by the Park Rynie Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) officers for speeding yesterday at noon.

The Shelley Beach resident was caught doing 203 kilometres an hour in the 120 kilometre zone at Clansthal on the N2 South bound.

She was driving a Mercedes Benz AMG-C63.

RTI spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu said the woman was denied bail and she will appear at the Scottburgh Magistrates Court today on charges of exceeding the speed limit. “It is this kind of behaviour which leads to the death of innocent people on our roads.

“Reckless driving does not only affect the reckless driver, but sometimes affects the lives of passengers or people in other vehicles that might be involved in an accident. Severe punishment needs to be meted out to people like this woman,” said Mngomezulu.
