38 Witnesses (38 Témoins)

2012-07-26 00:00

Based on Didier Decoin’s novel, Belgian director Lucas Belvaux re tells the story of the murder of Kitty Genovese in New York 1964. Located in a small French Harbour City, the film tells the story of the 38 neighbours who witnessed the murder but chose to turn a blind eye.

With beautiful harbour views and haunting scenes, you are left with an introspective debate as to whether you would have helped, or if it would have been easier to go back to bed. Any film that leaves me feeling slightly uncomfortable with myself, as this one did, is definitely worth another watch. I highly recommend 38 Witnesses for a mature audience member. Guaranteed to spark debate, this is a beautiful, sensitive piece of cinematic drama.

French with English Subtitles

Catch the film on July 28 at 9.30 pm at July 29 at 9.15 pm at Suncoast.
