40 years on, Salvation Army still strong

2014-10-27 00:00

THE Salvation Army, Imbali Corps situated in Imbali Unit 1 celebrated 40 years of proud work last week.

President Jacob Zuma’s First Lady, Sizakele Zuma and KZN MEC for Social Development Weziwe Thusi were among the guests.

Zuma said she joined the Salvation Army at a very young age.

Imbali ward 15 councillor Garnet Mlete said the Salvation Army played a big role at Imbali during apartheid. “The church let us hold our meetings there.”

Major Luka Khanyumbi from Kenya said the Imbali Corps was the home of many divisional churches in South Africa. “The Salvation Army has eight divisions in the country, and four of them are rooted in Imbali,” he said, adding 40 is a significant number in the Bible. “Jesus was tempted for 40 days, fasted for 40 days and remained on Earth for 40 days after his resurrection.”
