42 bills await legislators’ nod

2014-02-06 00:00

PUBLIC representatives in the KwaZulu-Natal legislature have their hands full as they prepare for a flood of legislation to be passed before the general election.

A total 42 bills are before national Parliament — 24 bills are with the National Assembly and 18 with the National Council of Provinces.

The KZN legislature is considering laws relating to incentives for companies that invest in special zones, a law which seeks to bar civil servants from doing business with the government and one that seeks to transform the legal profession, among others.

The Democratic Alliance lashed out at the ruling party for “rushing” the bills through.

Provincial leader Sizwe Mchunu said the ANC-led government had folded its arms before and now realised at the 11th hour that there were still bills to be processed.
