5-5 for Westville, Kearsney

2013-11-19 00:00

WESTVILLE Boys’ High School and Kearsney College played to an entertaining 5-5 draw in their final waterpolo fixture of the season.

Playing at Westville, the hosts started slowly, finding themselves two goals down early in the game. Richard Ogg pulled one back and with Kearsney ahead 2-1 at the end of the first chukka, there was all to play for.

Many chances in the second chukka went begging as both sides failed to find the net after some attacking play, although Kearsney did edge ahead 3-1 at the halfway mark.

The third chukka saw Westville find their rhythm they took the game to Kearsney, defending strongly while creating chances. Ryan Clark and Grant Hewitt found the net, bringing matters level at 3-3; setting up a cracking final chukka.

For the first time in the match, Westville edged ahead in the fourth chukka, Chad Hosken finding his team’s fourth goal, followed soon after by Hewitt’s second. This gave Westville a two-goal cushion at 5-3 but a late flurry from Kearsney saw Westville let in two goals as the sides finished deadlocked at 5-5.
