5FM invades Durban next month

2012-06-22 00:00

5FM arrives in the province in July for the station’s fourth Durban Takeover Weekend — a series of events that’s become a highlight on the South African social calendar. Held over four days, from July 5 to July 8, the weekend ties in with the Durban July, where some of 5FM’s top DJs will be performing live, hosting events and giving back as part of 5FM’s CSI initiative, Youngblood5.

On July 5, Roger Goode and co-host Angie Khumalo begin with their brand of wacky edginess and cool music. The Roger Goode Radio Show will broadcast live from Taco Zulu in Florida Road, from 7 pm to 10 pm. Entrance is free, so join “the Raj” and Khumalo to blast open the weekend, 5FM style.

On July 6, the Fresh Drive team of DJ Fresh, Poppy Ntshongwana, Catherine Grenfell and Duran Collett broadcast live from 3 pm to 7 pm, at the Wavehouse at Gateway. Entrance is free and fans can meet the team, as well as Friday’s favourite deck spinner DJ Kent, who will perform live on the Ultimix@6 from 6 pm.

Other highlights include interactive games with the team, and the chance to win some hot prizes. The party doesn’t stop there — stick around for the Gateway and City of Durban free concert, hosted by Poppy Ntshongwana, with performances from 5FM’s DJ Fresh and DJ Euphonik, as well as Niskerone and Liquideep.

On July 7, 5FM heats up The Miller Marquee at the Durban July, from 11 am, with the hottest live entertainment hosted by Ntshongwana and featuring performances from GoodLuck, Khuli Chana, AKA, Lulo Café and many more. The party doesn’t end there. The Ultimix: Weekend Edition broadcasts live from the Miller Marquee, keeping the good vibes going from 7 pm to 10 pm with beats from Euphonik, Milkshake and C-Live as guests.

Then, on July 8, the action begins at 11 am at the Chatsworth Youth Centre, where 5FM’s Sureshnie Rider, who hails from Durban, will donate a projector and screen to the centre.

Volunteers can come through to help spruce up the centre’s grounds. Listen to 5FM for more information on how you can get involved in the day’s activities.

The weekend comes to a close with a live broadcast of Euphonik’s My House from 7 pm to 10 pm, at Boulevard on Florida Road. Entrance costs R100 and R150 for VIP.
