A day of exciting racing and fashion at the Golden Horse in PMB

2010-05-25 00:00

SOUTH Africa’s best sprinting horses are gathering in the capital for the year’s biggest clash of speed and the province’s top young designers are putting the final touches to their latest creations. Scottsville Racecourse is gearing up for a bumper day of thrilling racing, fabulous fashion and a whole lot of fun on Saturday.

It is Golden Horse Casino Sprint Raceday, South Africa’s biggest day of the year for the fleet-footed thoroughbreds and the only race meeting on the country’s racing calendar featuring four Grade 1 races on the same day.

The race meeting, the biggest in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands, features the country’s premier race for sprinters, the R600 000 Golden Horse Casino Sprint, along with the SA Fillies Sprint, the Gold Reef Resorts Medallion and the Allan Robertson Championship — all Grade 1 events over 1200 metres. The four races make up the only Grade 1 jackpot in the country and have drawn full fields of the best speed horses from around South Africa.

A major feature of the day will be the Earthly Elements of Fashion show, displaying the innovative creations of the province’s top young designers competing for awards in a number of fashion categories. The show gets under way at 9 am.

The event is planned as a day for the family. Special facilities are in place to cater for children in the Fun Corral, leaving parents free to enjoy the excitement and fun of the racing and fashion.

Bookings for the catering venues are pouring and readers should move quickly to secure their picnic sites or tables in Rockafella’s Restaurant. The limited space in the hospitality marquee is also selling fast. Book early by calling Fay Stuart or Val Baxter at 033 345 3405.
