A day of fine rugby at Skonk Nicholson festival

2012-04-04 00:00

THE weather was great, the College fields immaculate and some fine rugby made the first day of the fifth annual Husqvarna Skonk Nicholson Rugby Festival a success.

There were three matches with runaway victories, but the main matches were well contested.

The two final matches in the under-16 age group on Goldstones and the under-14 on Snows were tough games in which either side could have won the game.

Maritzburg College under-16 were fortunate to win against a Queens side who had most of the possession, but tried to win using brawn rather than brains.

The final game saw DHS bring off a good win against Brandwag.

In the U14 matches, Westville managed a hard-fought win against Jeppe, while College came from behind to beat Queens narrowly.

Other sides looking good are Menlopark in both age groups and Westville and KES at U16.

Hudson Park have a very accomplished U14 team who will be hard to beat. Nelspruit are another and had a good win against KES.
