A day of hockey, netball

The 21st annual Voortrekker Sports Festival took place on Saturday in front of enthusiastic supporters.

Sixteen hockey teams were divided into four pools and the winners of each pool played in the semi-finals. The first semi-final between Empangeni and Dundee was won by Empangeni in a penalty shoot-out (1-0). In the second semi-final Ladysmith beat Wartburg (1-0). In a tight final, Ladysmith beat Empangeni 1-0 to take the trophy.

The 16 netball teams were divided into four pools. In the quarter-finals Newcastle beat Voortrekker 11-6. Kuswag won 9-5 against Port Natal. Richardsbaai beat Dundee 6-5 and Empangeni won 9-5 against Ladysmith. In the semi-finals, Kuswag beat Newcastle 14-7 and Richardsbaai beat Empangeni 8-5. In the final Kuswag took the trophy, winning 27-5 against Richardsbaai.
