A romantic wave hits ECR studio

2014-11-13 00:00

THE radio waves were filled with excitement when an East Coast Radio (ECR) presenter popped the question on air yesterday.

Alain Tardin, filling in as sports presenter on ECR’s Breakfast Show with Darren Maule, proposed to his girlfriend Nordika Nel during the show.

Johannesburg-based physiotherapist Nel thought she was partaking in a know-your-mate-type couples’ quiz and had no clue what was about to happen.

When Tardin popped the question, her response was positive — but only after she had first exclaimed her shock.

“Of course, I definitely will,” she said.

She said it was a complete suprise. “Here I am trying to find a quiet spot at work to do this quiz and you completely surprise me! I’ve waited a long time for this moment!” she said.

The two met 10 years ago, but have been dating for four years.

“We met at gym when I was still a swimmer. She just couldn’t resist my Speedo,” said Tardin.

He said their families were traditionalists and he had asked Nel’s father for her hand in April.

“Its all about timing and it took this long, because I was waiting for the right moment.”

He said the long distance romance had not been tough at all. “When you love someone, you go the extra mile … and every free moment I have I’m either texting of calling her.”

He hoped Nel would open a practice here and settle on the coast.
