A tribute to the king of rock ‘n roll, Elvis Presley

2012-03-16 00:00

FOR the past 20 years, Andrea Giglio has travelled the length and breadth of South Africa to entertain fans of the legendary king of rock ‘n roll, Elvis Presley. And now, Pietermaritzburg music lovers can catch his show when he takes to the stage in Ronel Wood’s Sunset Soiree at the Collegians Club on March 25.

Elvis Aaron Presley was one of the most popular United States singers of the 20th century. Widely known by the single name Elvis, he is often referred to as “the King”.

Asked how his life as an Elvis tribute performer began, Giglio said: “I have always loved singing, and I was given an opportunity to play the role of Elvis in a rock ‘n roll show in 1992, and so my career was born.”

The singer loves the whole package that Presley was, rather than simply his music. “I love the type of person he was, his incredible voice that had a life of its own, and the brilliant entertainer that he was,” he added.

As for his favourite Elvis tune, he says that’s easy — American Trilogy. “He sang with such power and passion, and I love singing it for that reason,” Giglio said.

And as for what people can expect from his show, he says: “Elvis during the seventies. I’ll be wearing my jumpsuit, and will be covering all the favourites from Blue Suede Shoes to Burning Love, Jailhouse Rock, Love Me Tender, Suspicious Minds and many more.”

The Elvis-themed Sunset Soiree, The Mirror Image of Elvis, will take place at 6 pm for 6.30 pm. Tickets are R80, and patrons are encouraged to take along a picnic basket.
