ANC blames DA for video clip sent by own ranks

2014-07-18 00:00

A CASE of the pot calling the kettle black? The ANC is pointing fingers at a DA councillor for forwarding a video clip showing a women being decapitated, while initially the footage came from their own ranks.

The ANC in KZN has now come to the defence of KwaSani Mayor Mduduzi Banda, who first distributed an undated video clip showing women being decapitated by balaclava-clad men.

ANC’s Sisonke acting regional secretary Nosisa Jojozi said the party had met Banda over the matter.

“We were fairly satisfied that he [Banda] did not mean any harm or to incite violence or intimidate anyone but it was innocently meant to do awareness among the local leaders,” Jojozi said.

She said the ANC condemned a DA councillor for allegedly circulating the same video, which he had described as intimidating and threatening.

The Witness reported three weeks ago that the DA planned on laying charges with the police against Banda and wanted Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube to take action against him.

It was reported that Banda allegedly circulated the video clip on the WhatsApp group used by the municipality to communicate council matters to the seven councillors, senior officials and committee clerks.

Banda had been defiant when the matter surfaced.

“I am expecting anyone to tell me which code of conduct, act or policy I have breached,” he said at the time.

Jojozi said the ruling party did not encourage violence and in particular violence against women.

The DA was not immediately available for comment.
