ANC in crisis talks

2010-08-25 00:00

THE ANC in KwaZulu-Natal is to meet its youth wing after a call by the ANC Youth League for the reshuffling of the KZN cabinet.

The ANCYL called for the removal of the MECs for Social Development Meshack Radebe, Public Works and Human Settlement Maggie Govender and Agriculture and Rural Development Lydia Johnson. The call was one of the resolutions made during the ANCYL’s provincial general council held in Pinetown last week.

ANC provincial secretary Sihle Zikalala said the organisation condemns the ANCYL statement and that the organisation has full confidence in its MECs. He added that the ANC will meet the ANCYL on the matter, but he could not say when.

ANCYL provincial secretary Bheki Mtolo said at the ANCYL national general council being held in Johannesburg that the youth league in KZN stands by the resolution “since it was taken by 596 branches ANCYL in KZN”.

“We cannot reverse that because we cannot afford to commit such a crime.

“We will be meeting them (ANC) next week and we will still be pushing for that position.

“Ours is not to represent the interest of the leadership, but to represent the interest of the suffering masses,” Mtolo said.
