ANC to parade IFP defectors

2011-04-21 00:00

KWAZULU-NATAL ANC chairperson Zweli Mkhize will parade about 50 people who he claims have defected to the ANC ranks from the Inkatha Freedom Party.

The new members will be introduced at the Durban City Hall today.

The party’s provincial secretary, Sihle Zikalala, said that among the new recruits are former senior members of the IFP who have been serving in the political oversight committee, IFP Youth Brigade leaders and a number of white community members.

At the weekend the ANC held a ceremony in KwaNongoma when it welcomed what it claimed were more than 400 ex-IFP members. Some were recruited by Nokuthula Buthelezi, the granddaughter of the IFP leader.
