ATM at KZN mission bombed

2008-07-06 00:00

ATM bombers blasted another machine, causing structural damage estimated at more than R1 million at a missionary building in the Kranskop area in the early hours of Friday morning.

Five heavily armed men drove into the KwaSizabantu Mission premises in a white Audi A6 vehicle and held up security guards at gunpoint, robbing two of them of their 9 mm pistols, said police spokeswoman Inspector Joey Jeevan.

The guards were forced to lie on the ground, as was a 25-year-old man from America who was returning from church.

The Standard Bank ATM was then blown up and the gang fled with a large sum of money.

Jeevan said police appeal to anyone with information that can assist in the investigation to contact Captain Bobby Naicker of the Greytown Serious and Violent Crime Unit at 082 469 9189 or Crime Stop on the toll-free number 0800 10111.
