ATM bomb suspects charged with killing policeman

THE murder of a policeman has been added to the charges against 11 alleged ATM bombers.

The men are now charged with killing K9 unit constable Vidhur Jadoo, who died in a shoot-out in Howick on November 7.

The 11 are charged with bombing ATMs in Howick, Merrivale, Nottingham Road amd Greytown, and with the murders of Sizwe Gule and Patricia Nkosi in Utrecht on December 5.

They were arrested in Jozini on January 13 and allegedly found in possession of 119 AK47 rounds, three AK47s and a .45 ACP pistol. They were also charged with the theft of a Colt bakkie in Howick.

The new charges include the attempted murders of Philani Zondi, Hlomani Zondi and Thulani Zondi on October 20 last year when they bombed an ATM at Howick Spar. They are charged with several other attempted murders in various incidents.

Magistrate Kevin Leat remanded them in custody until March 7.
