Absolute nail-biters in Coastal premier league

2012-10-12 00:00

THERE were nail-biting victories for African Warriors and Delta in KZN Coastal Premier 50 League action, and the close results are likely to continue this Sunday, while KZN Inland KFC T20 battles are set to take place at Wanderers Club.

Sfiso Mbili’s four wickets for 42 and Cyril Mthimkhulu’s four for 24 limited Pinetown to 111 all out, and had it not been for 38 runs apiece by Daniel Sincuba and Victor Xulu in the face of penetrative bowling by Kyle Gilham (four for 33 in 10 overs), Warriors might have missed a great chance to register a valuable win.

Warriors’ two-wicket win was mirrored to an even greater extent in terms of close-run things in the match between Delta and Topham.

Yuvan Maharaj (49) top-scored in Delta’s 109 as Wade Canham (three for 12) and Shaun Rampersad three for 19) never allowed the batters to get set. However, Jonathan Fowler’s four for 22 in 9.2 overs was complemented by Husain Badat’s three for nine as Delta came storming back to steal a three-run victory, Steven van der Westhuizen’s 33 the only individual Topham score of note.

The KZN Inland KFC Premier T20 League on Sunday sees home side Standard taking on Zingari at 9.30 am at Wanderers Club in Aberfeldy Road before Varsity cross swords with Young Natalians at Wanderers at 1.30 pm.

Round one of the Coastal Premier 50 League resumes when Crusaders entertain DHS Rhythm; Chatsworth Sporting tackle Topham at Chatsworth Oval; Delta meet Uthungulu at Tills Crescent; Pinetown host Berea Rovers at Lahee Park and African Warriors face up to Chatsworth United at Kingsmead Oval.

Meanwhile, KZN Coastal drew with Boland in the rain-affected CSA Provincial Competition three-day match in Paarl last weekend before losing the rain-affected 50-over match by 66 runs on the D/L method.
