Accident: five die, on critical after N3 crash

2010-02-16 00:00

A SINGLE-CAR accident on the N3 near the Marianhill Toll Plaza left five people dead and another critically injured yesterday afternoon.

The north-bound Honda slammed into the steel support pillar of an overhead sign. It veered out of control and landed on its roof in the middle of the highway, obstructing the left and middle lanes.

“Paramedics first at the scene pulled the critically injured man from the wreckage of the car,” said Netcare 911 spokesman Jeffrey Wicks. He was stabilised and taken to RK Khan Hospital.

Three women and two men were killed.

Road Traffic Inspectorate spokeswoman Zintle Megomezulu said: “it was not easy to identify these people. Their bodies were mangled.”
