Accident on N3 causes traffic delay

2014-02-25 00:00

TRAFFIC came to a standstill for about an hour yesterday morning after a minibus taxi travelling towards Durban overturned on the N3 near Paradise Valley.

Provincial Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu said 16 people were transported to various hospitals with minor to serious injuries.

One injured passenger was airlifted by KZN Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital. “Traffic was seriously delayed for about an hour. It’s not clear at this stage what caused the vehicle to overturn. This is the second accident in that area since the beginning of the year,” said Mngomezulu.

EMS paramedics and some private ambulance services treated the injured before transporting them to the hospitals.

EMS spokesperson Robert Mckenzie said some of the injured passengers were taken to St Mary’s, King Edward VIII and Addington hospitals for further medical care.

Mckenzie said the road had to be closed completely for the medic helicopter to land.
