Accident: two dead, three injured

TWO people were killed and three others injured when a vehicle they were travelling in was involved in a head-on collision with a truck in northern KwaZulu-Natal yesterday morning.

The incident happened on the R102 just outside Empangeni at about midnight.

Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu said all the victims were travelling in an Opel Kadette to Matubatuba. She said the two men died at the scene.

She added that an investigation is under way to establish which of the two drivers caused the accident by being in the wrong lane.

In Pietermaritzburg, a man died when he was knocked over by a vehicle at the intersection of Royston and Manning roads on Saturday morning.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan said the man had run across the road at about 6.20 am.
