2009-12-03 00:00

ONE man was critically injured and six other people sustained less serious injuries when two vehicles collided head-on along Newlands West Drive in Durban yesterday afternoon.

Netcare911 spokesman Jeff Wicks said the two cars were wedged against each other in the roadway. He said that while the cause of the accident remains unclear, the wet weather is thought to have been partly to blame.

The injured were treated and stabilised at the scene before they were taken to various hospitals.

The person in a critical condition was taken to Addington Hospital.

In another accident, a motorist suffered serious injuries after a truck wedged his light motor vehicle up against the Armco barrier.

Derrick Banks of ER24 said the motorist was treated for possible neck, back and shoulder injuries.

In the same afternoon, nine people suffered minor to serious injuries when the minibus taxi they were travelling in slammed into the back of a truck along Rana Road near South Coast Road. They were taken to Prince M’Shiyeni Hospital in Umlazi.
