‘Acting’ waste collection drivers on a go slow

2014-10-03 00:00

“ACTING” drivers in the Msunduzi waste management section were on a go slow yesterday.

The result was that rubbish had not been collected in certain areas.

The waste management drivers complained that they had been in acting positions for 10 years, waiting for the council to get more money and finalise its organograms.

The workers complained that when the municipality recently advertised the posts, they were shocked to discover they had not been shortlisted to be interviewed.

They said they were not protesting but just doing the work they had before being appointed drivers.

Msunduzi municipal manager Mxolisi Nkosi said the recruitment process was still unfolding and that the shortlisting process was not yet over.

The municipality apologised for the dirt not being collected and said by today there will be staff available to clear the backlog on the streets.
