Adult panto: Peter Pan

2010-10-28 00:00

DURBAN’S adult pantomime is back and this year the classic tale of Peter Pan gets the ‘naughty but nice’ treatment.

Yes, boys and girls, after many years happily spent sullying the memory of all our best loved fairytales, this year’s adult panto takes us away from Alwaysland where the global economic crisis, strike action, the ash cloud that prevented your annual skiing trip, and the endless fight with Christmas shoppers in every mall in town, prevent you from having fun.

Pure festive season froth, this show promises plenty of double entendre, well-known songs, jokes, and a plot that’s not difficult to follow — just don’t bring the kids.

Starring in this year’s show is adult panto legend Anthony Stonier, who will be playing Captain Hooker; Rowan Bartlett as Peter Pan; Rikki Hastings as Wendy; Daisy Spencer as Tinkerbell; Roland Perold as Nibs the Lost Boy; and Thomie Holtzhausen as Mrs Darling, Nana the Dog, Smee and Tiger Lily, who hails not from her tepee in the wild west but from Blue Lagoon.

Peter Pan (the adult panto) is written and directed by Darren King, with music direction and costume design by Stonier.

See it at the Hexagon Theatre at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Pietermaritzburg at 7.30 pm on November 4 and 5.

Tickets are R90 from 033 260 5537 or via e-mail at hexagon

Alternatively, head down to Durban to see the show at the Musgrave Supper Theatre (formally the Dockyard) from November 9 to December 31. Showtimes are 8 pm Tuesday to Saturday and Sundays at 2 pm.

Tickets range from R90 to R110 and patrons should bring along a picnic to the Durban shows. Booking is through Computicket. — Arts Editor.
